What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a system of health care that focuses on treatment of joints, muscles, ligaments and connective tissue with ‘hands on’ techniques such as:

  • Deep tissue massage
  • Stretching
  • Manipulation.

At Ringwood Osteopathy you will benefit from an approach to health care in which:

  • A full medical case history will be taken.
  • Your posture and spinal movements will be assessed.
  • Therapeutic techniques will be used specifically for your individual needs.
  • Exercises and stretches are often prescribed to prevent problems from recurring.
  • The cause of the problem is treated to prevent the pain and discomfort from returning.

Who can benefit from Osteopathic treatment?
Common conditions that are often treated by an Osteopath include:

  • Sports injuries - Recurring or acute injuries.
  • Upper back ache, neck pain, headaches, and migraine.
  • Postural and/or mobility problems.
  • Lower back and hip pain due to trauma or the stresses of everyday living.
  • Back pain during and after pregnancy can be treated in a gentle and safe approach.
  • Joint pain

Osteopathy is a gentle, soothing approach to restoring health, and is therefore suitable for treating all age group (Including new-born infants and the elderly).

Do I need a referral from my GP?
A formal referral from your GP is not necessary; the majority of Osteopathic patients self-refer.  Osteopathy is a primary health care profession and is covered under the ancillary or extras cover schedules of major health funds.  Treatment is covered by worker’s compensation and TAC insurance.
